Perhaps in some cases some of those animals will collect some snow on their bodies just as they would if the lived in Africa in places where snow falls each year. References :

Most good zoos have a nice warm indoor enclosure for the animals to go in if they wish. Some animals like to play in the snow even if it doesn’t happen in their natural environment. Even then the keepers will watch them so the animals don’t harm themselves by being in the cold too long. References :

I don’t know, but what I find funny is that the National Zoo in Washington has an African lion, while the White House in Washington has a lyin’ African. References :

It’s not really a big deal. It’s not as if their whole environment changes (including the scarcity of food). A male african lion looks like he has more fur to keep him warm than a cougar (mountain lion). References :
