There was a new law past that people with under 3 acres of land could not keep any kind of farm animal. I have goats, horses and pigs and I have 5 days to get rid of them or they will give me a fine and take them away. I have tried the grandfather clause and they said it would not work. Is there any way I can combat this law and get to keep my pets?
get yourself an attorney and too bad for the city. you will be grandfathered in,. I own a farm, I am a realtor and I hate this kind of thing when cities try and get rid of rural folks. it makes me want to move further and further away so I feel your pain on this. get a real estate attorney and in the mean time try and find a friend to keep the animals for you so animal control doesnt show up and take them since you got the 5 day notice. board them just do something so they dont come take them, get an attorney and then sue for damages including emotional distress, violating your religious beliefs, seriously anything. also consult with a litigation attorney, the threat of monetary damages paid makes anyone sing a different tune. good luck serioulsy my heart goes out to you

I’m no lawyer and I would suggest talking to one. It will most likely cost you some money but I am sure you could get a court case to get a exemption of some sort & with a court case pending, i’d think they wouldn’t be able to do anything about your animals until after the trial.
For every law there are loopholes. A farm animal to my knowledge is defined as animals used for farming or for consumption. If you argue that your pets are "domesticated pets" & not used for either, that law wouldn’t apply to you.
That’s just a example though.
Fight stupid laws with stupid loopholes….it’s the only way to win.

I agree, get a lawyer. You should fight this. It’s like having pets in your rental and then all of a sudden landlord says no pets. They can’t do that if they allowed them in the first place, or move? Not 100% sure on this 1 but I would Definitely get a lawyer even if I couldn’t afford it.

It might pay you to research and be ready to fight this law if it ever actually gets applied to you.
I assume this law was passed locally for a genuine reason that’s nothing to do with you and as such there will be no legal pursuit against your smallholding unless someone complains?.
