I have always wanted to take part in the care of exotic animals. I always watch the Growing up Cheetah and Growing up Clouded Leopard (and all the other ones too!) and I am always very jealous of the care takers. I want to know how I could either raise, own, rebabilitate or even just own exotc animals.
How can I do this?
It’s so hard finding stuff online that isn’t just someones blog.
ps. I’m from Connecticut.
Well your on the right track because the most important thing about caring for exotics is wanting to do it right.
The people who care for animals like that have either "fallen" into the program with no further training but a willingness to learn and care for animals. Others go through training, possibly taking zoology/biology classes and veterinary studies specifing in exotic animals or native wild animals. Volunteering with a licensed wildlife rehabor, because you would work directly under a licensed wildlife rehabor you would fall under their permits. To find a wildlife rehabor contact Nature Centers in your area maybe even your states department of Nature Resources can help you find a rehabor. You can even take Wildlife Managenent cources at Hocking College (2yrs).
Don’t be jealous of another’s job, just have the desire to go out and follow you goals..you can get there.
Best of Luck.
I always thought Blackfoot ferret reintroduction would be a great job!
Anari..LOL not all exotic animals come from the tropics..
(My pet skunk is classified as an Exotic Pet…yet, it is a Native Wild Animal )

Apply at a center where they do take care of exotic animals.
Anyway, Connecticut is not a good place to raise any animal from the tropics.

I am pretty sure there are no Cheetahs or Leopards that need rehabiliating in Connecticut!
you might have foxes, squirrels etc. though..
you need to decide do you want to OWN exotics, have them as pets, or do you want to RESCUE them (which means giving them very little human contact so they dont get use to people, and then setting them free?
technically anything other than a cat or dog or livestock are exotic pets (so rabbits are exotics).
here is a link about owning exotics

you need to contact your areas fish/wildlife services (I am in Canada, thats what we call it here anyhow) as they cover licences, you will need CITES for some animals too.
