This is a remake of one of my older videos. Learn about the cruelties that shroud exotic animal ownership. Exotic animal ownership in no way helps to save animals, as many owners will argue. Owning an animal that should be free doesn’t constitute as conservation, and is truly of no value to the species. Others argue that the animals have never seen freedom, so how could they miss it? That statement clearly shows that they, to some degree acknowledge life is better for the animals in the wild. And true, an animal may not have experienced freedom. That does not mean it will live a happy life in captivity. The argument against exotic pet ownership is backed by facts, and many of the world’s renowned animal supporters and activists.
Please spread the word with me, as so many people still do not know about this. Tell people you know, and boycott places that support the selling or buying of exotic animals as pets. Anything you do can make a difference- set up awareness events, contact your local media station to do an investigation, perhaps of a local breeder or auction. Create and share videos that highlight the truth.
Many pet stores actually sell tiger cubs to people. This in itself should be a crime. Especially when you know how those animals get to the pet stores in the first place…
There is also no such thing as a “responsible” breeder of wild animals. No animal should be born for a life in a cage, especially with the ever climbing number of exotic animals without homes. Many will end up in roadside zoos and menageries, where they will be bred for their cubs, until their use is up. Why create more tigers and other animals when so many need help? It’s a parallel to the pet overpopulation crisis.
We need to support real conservation efforts- not backyard breeders who claim to be helping by giving cubs to anyone who asks, or those who auction the cubs to the highest bidder. No animals are being saved here. But thousands are being hurt and thrown into deplorable situations.
While this video uses solely images of exotic cats, be aware that these facts ring true for the other exotic animals- including but not limited to wolves, bears, and any hybrid animals as well.
These animals need better laws. Please contact your State Legislature and urge for better laws protecting exotic animals kept as pets.

So, may I ask your stance on Sugar Glider or Fennec Fox ownership?
SnowLeopardQueen December 16th, 2008, 5:37 pm
Well, almost …
Well, almost everyone is aware that all pets were demesticated but you can’t bring a species that has been wild as long as the earth been and expect it to become demesticated just like that.
It’s taken thousands of years to domesticate cats and dogs and they still have natural instincts that they rely on to survive. They are much smaller and much less agressive. They also need territory and fight for it with other animals but exotic animals need miles and miles of space to roam.

I strongly disagree …
I strongly disagree in owning a cougar or serval or any of those animals. Contact me if you want links to real pet owners e-mails to Big Cat Rescue, about their pet situation. Servals SPRAY like crazy. I have seen them. They are like house cats in the way they destroy furniture, are aggresive during feeding time, and have the instincts of a cat- to stalk, hunt, and pounce. Cougars are a similar story. And NO “responsible” breeder would ever sell to a person wanting a pet exotic.

Animals were born …
Animals were born in the wild for a reason, why should you take them away from their home for your own selfish needs? I hate the way of thinking we’ve gotten into these days, that we own everything and that we can just stop instinct in it’s tracks by force. Everyone would be happier if we just dropped keeping, selling, and trading wild animals altogether and focused on more productive things.

Here’s a reply. Buy …
Here’s a reply. Buy a house cat and leave the wild animals in the wild. There is no way to tame or domesticate an animal out of its instincts… for example look at a dog, and how many millions of years it took for people to breed the wild instincts out of them, and we still have problems with some dogs going feral.

This is insanity. Why are breeding farms legal anyway? These
beautiful animals;and other species;should be free;not kept
as pets;and in those tiny cages too? Man is a sick species.

I do not agree of an endangered animal being sold as a pet because it does nothing for the animals species. I am considering to buy an exotic cat. Originally a Clouded Leopard until I found out that they are endangered and in need of breeding. Now I’m thinking of buy a Cougar or Serval. I would want your opinions on this please reply
Douma93 December 16th, 2008, 5:37 pm
I agree and oppose …
I agree and oppose your ideas. All animals can be domesticated in due time. I agree that not all pet owners are responsible enough to keep an animal and that some businesses are dirty pouching the animals, killing the mother to get the cubs etc. However there are good agencies that breed the animal and sell the cubs they are not going to keep. Owner responsibility is not for exotic animals only, but for every animal owner.

Cachanga Caracal …
Cachanga Caracal you do know that pets were just domesticated wild animals like take cats and dogs for example,so wild animals could be domesticated just give them love and space and release them in the wild later! to support my opinion i want you to look at the video of christian the lion.

People who want a pet should stick with domesticated house cats. Adopting a cat from a rescue or a shelter is a loving act - please consider doing so.

I don’t want a pet …
I don’t want a pet whale, a pet bear, or even a big cat, In fact I don’t want anything that can easily kill me. But I don’t understand why it should be illegal to own an uncommon pet that isn’t dangerous, wild, large or nearly extinct, like say a ferret or sugargliders. That is stupid.

There are harsh …
There are harsh laws and if a country does not wish to obey them we can do little more then stop trading with them, which only makes the problem worse. Paper parks and govenment overthrows are also problems. Thier environment is lost and the little that is protected can not sustain many of the animals that live within them. Look at the Elephants, the land can no longer support large numbers of them because of various reasons.
DragonNighthowler December 16th, 2008, 5:37 pm
We should protect …
We should protect their enviroment, not encage them. We should make harder laws, so goverments like the Japanese won’t hunt down whales excusing scientific investigation.
But most asian people keep hunting big cats and other animals because their culture estimates some of their organs to increase sexual apetite. Just sad.

There is no wildrness left for them to live in, big cat species like the Amur Leopard and the Sumerian Tigers have about 30 individuals left in the wild and small numbers in captivity. We have no choice now but to keep all wild cats in captivity.

Romans, and …
Romans, and egyptians in ancient times used to keep cheetas as pets. I’ve heard they have a good temper, and behave like house cats. Whatsoever, cheetas were made to run free, and I cringe everytime I see a cheeta in a small cage at a zoo.
I believe there are some exotics, like fish or spiders, that can be kept in amazing conditions. Others, like big cats and birds, is just sad. I love watching bird fly, why keep them in a cage?
